Ecological pest control and decontamination of biocide-contaminated collections and art objects

In addition to its current locations in Brussels and London, ICM (https://www.icm.works/en/) will have a German subsidiary in Berlin from spring 2021. Affiliated are studios and storage areas and a humidity-controlled ICM warm air chamber for the treatment of insect-infested artworks and collections as well as for the decontamination of biocide-contaminated artworks and collections.
With Dipl.-Restaurator MA Jörg Breitenfeldt – Büro für Restaurierung – as managing director and founding partner, ICM has been able to recruit an extremely experienced coordinator for its future activities in the German market.
ICM Deutschland GmbH is part of the Brussels-based conservation company IPARC International Platform for Art Research and Conservation (https://www.iparc.eu/en/). IPARC currently employs 20 full-time conservators from various disciplines. All employees are certified masters in conservation.
ICM-IPARC operates a versatile, multidisciplinary platform and offers professional services from all areas of conservation and restoration, research and analysis, integrated pest management, and collection management. In addition, the storage of art objects and entire collections is also part of the portfolio (LINK https://www.artport.be/)

About ICM

ICM – Integrated Contamination Management – offers solutions for both pest infestations and contamination in collections. ICM, through its Brussels-based parent company IPARC – International Platform for Art Research & Conservation – is part of a large and highly professional conservation and restoration company. With its humidity-regulated warm air treatment method, ICM uses a 100% environmentally friendly method.
Pest infestation can damage or destroy works of art. Biocide residues can also damage collection objects, but in addition have serious effects on human health. Conservators, depot staff, art handlers and art transporters are just a few of the groups who are often in close contact with contaminated objects over long periods of time. Biocide-contaminated collections are a worldwide problem and are increasingly attracting attention. One of the leading experts in the field of museum toxicology, Dr. Boaz Paz, has already started a systematic study on biocide reduction and decontamination using the ICM method.
Consequently, ICM also offers qualitative and quantitative analysis of contaminants in collections. In addition, ICM provides general advice on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in museums and collections.
ICM also provides one of the most important IPM monitoring tools: Insect traps are essential for effective control. All ICM traps are 100% ecological, affordable and contain no toxins (www.icm.supplies).
ICM contributes to creating safe and healthy working environments in line with the EU Biocide Regulation and SDGs 3 and 11 (linkhttps://sdgs.un.org/goals Sustainable Development Goals). Not least through its Scientific Advisory Board (link https://www.icm.works/en/advisory-board/), the company works closely with internationally renowned experts in the fields of preventive conservation, entomology and chemistry.
ICM has offices and treatment chambers in London and Brussels to date. The Berlin-based branch ICM Deutschland GmbH was founded in February 2021, with other major European cities to follow. A mobile treatment chamber is also available that can travel to museums and collections. In addition, museums, private collectors, art transporters or libraries can lease or rent their own customised treatment chamber. As part of an all-inclusive package, ICM staff can take over the operation of the facilities.
